FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is Vinyasa Yoga?
The literal translation of Vinyasa from Sanskrit is connection, or to place in a special way. In terms of yoga asana (poses), we can interpret this as a connection between movement and breath. This practice focuses on postures that build from one to the next revealing an internal logic of body, breath, mind, and movement. The postures are well placed and lead to a balanced, complete feeling at the end of the practice. This practice is suited for those with some yoga experience as well as more advanced students.
  • What should I bring to an in-studio class?
All you need to begin practicing yoga is your body, your mind, and a bit of curiosity. But, to start we ask you to bring $10 and a yoga mat, and it is helpful to have comfortable clothing and water. Urban Sol Yoga will provide other props, if needed. Typically yoga is best done barefoot.

Please arrive at the studio about 5-10 minutes before your first class to meet your teacher and check in. This will leave you ample time to ask any questions, prepare for class, and relax onto your mat.

  • I am not flexible. Can I practice yoga?
Yes, you are a perfect candidate for yoga. Come as you are and you will find that practicing yoga will increase your flexibility.
  • How can a private session help me?
Whether you are new to yoga and would like to learn the foundations of yoga in a stress-free environment, or you are an experienced student looking to advance in your yoga practice, 1:1 yoga sessions go beyond what is taught in a group class. Practicing yoga can also be very therapeutic and is used to help people manage pain and recover from injuries, or to treat and calm anxiety and depression. Private yoga sessions are crafted specifically to your needs, areas of interest, and goals. During a private session, you have the complete support of the teacher to guide you through your practice with attention to your individual alignment. You will be guided though a practice customized just for you, with personalized refinement and modifications in each pose.
